Ferrandino and Laura Benson:Host
Jane Blanchard discusses how women can run for office. Her two
guests represent women that have been involved in that process locally.
Rita Ferrandino:
In 2007, was elected as Chair of the Sarasota Democratic Party. She was
elected as a delegate to the Democratic National Convention, and was
highlighted as a chosen delegate in a video profile in The New York
Times. She serves as a member of the AEP & SIIA Government
Relations Committee and is a senior fellow for the Center for Digital
Government. Ferrandino was appointed to the statewide 2009-2010 Florida
Campaign Committee by Karen Thurman, Chair of the Florida Democratic
Party. The Tampa media named Rita Ferrandino as one of “8 in
2008 to
Watch,” she was honored as the cover story in February 2009 West Coast
Woman Newspaper. SRQ Magazine recently did a feature story
entitled,
“Fighting Nice.”
Laura Benson:
candidate for House District 69, was a member of the Sarasota County
School Board, Chairman of the Early Learning Coalition of Sarasota
County, and mentor and Cub Master with Take Stock in
Children. Laura
Benson is a 25-year resident of Southwest Florida and the mother of
three children. She is married to Brian Meskil, a realtor with
Prudential PALMS Realty and serves on numerous local and statewide
boards.
