Ann Freidman:
, Ann was a high school Spanish teacher in Connecticut for 26
years
before retiring in 2000. While in the school system, she co-founded the
first Gay-Straight Alliance in a public high school in
Connecticut,
coordinated workshops for students given by the Anti-Defamation League
and the Coalition for Community and Justice, sponsored her school’s
diversity club and brought diversity training into the middle and
elementary schools as well. In addition, she did diversity workshops
for parents and school staff, attending many workshops to familiarize
herself with techniques. After retiring, she presented diversity
workshops to faculty in other Connecticut schools on staff development
days until moving to Sarasota.

Musician: Maria Wirries
Twelve year old Marial Wirries lives in Myakka City and has a long list
of solo performance credits. She is known locally and statewide,
regularly performing for local events, state fairs and churches and her
rendition of Start Spangled Banner has been nationally televised. This
gifted “A” student is also a prize-winning competitive figure skater,
studies piano, singing and dancing.
