Nola Theiss is the Executive Director and Founder of Human Trafficking
Awareness Partnerships, Inc. She has worked for the last several years
to build awareness of modern day slavery by helping
communities form coalitions to work together on this issue and develop
partnerships among them to be more effective in their efforts. She
became involved in the human trafficking issue through the Zonta Club
of Sanibel-Captiva which spearheaded a community effort to form a human
trafficking task force with the cooperation of the Lee County Sheriff's
Office which has since been called "a model of citizen activism". She
was an organizing partner in the National Conference on Human
Trafficking held at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) in February,
2006 and has won numerous awards for her human trafficking work.
Joyce Raby is the chair of the Human Trafficking Committee on the
Sarasota Council on the Status of Women and is the founder of the
Sarasota Human Trafficking Awareness Coalition. She is involved in many
local organizations including the Peace Alliance, Beyond War, the South
West Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice, Keep Sarasota County
Beautiful, We R4Kids, Coalition for Inclusion and Diversity, Safe Kids,
and the Safe and Drug Free committee for the Sarasota County
Schools. Joyce is a teacher and tutor. She has
lived in Sarasota for 46 years. She loves helping others, and
she enjoys working in the Sarasota community as a volunteer.
She is committed to making a difference in Sarasota for children.
