Human Trafficking in Florida

Nola Theiss is the Executive Director and Founder of Human Trafficking Awareness Partnerships, Inc. She has worked for the last several years to  build awareness of modern day slavery by helping communities form coalitions to work together on this issue and develop partnerships among them to be more effective in their efforts. She became involved in the human trafficking issue through the Zonta Club of Sanibel-Captiva which spearheaded a community effort to form a human trafficking task force with the cooperation of the Lee County Sheriff's Office which has since been called "a model of citizen activism". She was an organizing partner in the National Conference on Human Trafficking held at Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) in February, 2006 and has won numerous awards for her human trafficking work.

Joyce Raby is the chair of the Human Trafficking Committee on the Sarasota Council on the Status of Women and is the founder of the Sarasota Human Trafficking Awareness Coalition. She is involved in many local organizations including the Peace Alliance, Beyond War, the South West Florida Coalition for Peace and Justice, Keep Sarasota County Beautiful, We R4Kids, Coalition for Inclusion and Diversity, Safe Kids, and the Safe and Drug Free committee for the Sarasota County Schools.  Joyce is a teacher and tutor.  She has lived in Sarasota for 46 years.  She loves helping others, and she enjoys working in the Sarasota community as a volunteer.  She is committed to making a difference in Sarasota for children.
